Skin Needling

Clinical name

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)

An effective treatment to rejuvenate and strengthen skin; as well as helping to reduce the appearance of ice pick scars, acne scarring, surgical scars, deep wrinkles, pigmentation, thickened skin from sun damage and a preventative therapy for slowing down the aging process of our skin.

How CIT works

Firstly the skin is cleansed and Topical Anaesthetic applied for 30 minutes to numb the skin and reduce discomfort.

Very fine needles penetrate the skin at a specific depth dependant on indication for treatment (0.5 mm to 2.0mm) and causes localised damage and bleeding as blood vessels are ruptured. This controlled wound induces the wound healing response. Whilst treating the skin, Factor 40 serum (snail derived) and Hyaluronic Acid, a very hydrating molecule are infused into the skin to elevate the rejuvenation and renewal response of the treated skin.

benefits to the skin

Release of growth factors  |  Angiogenesis — creating new blood vessels and flushing out old ones  |  Fibroblast proliferation (cells responsible for making collagen and elastin and Hyaluronic Acid)  |  Reinforces the integrity and structure of connective tissue  |  Existing irregular fibrous tissue (scars, thickened sun damaged skin) is broken down and replaced with new healthy, strong connective tissue.

Preparation

It is important that for 72 hours prior to treatment you DO NOT expose your skin to any of the following solutions:
Retinol (Vitamin A)  |  Auto-immune therapies  |  No sun exposure or sunburns

Contraindications

Your specialist may refuse to treat you if you suffer from any of the following conditions. You must alert your specialist if you fall under one or more of the following categories. Your personal situation will be assessed, if your condition is deemed suitable, caution preceding your treatment will be used.

Anti-coagulant medications  |  Roaccutane  |  Diabetes  |  Active Acne  |  Cold Sores  |  Pregnancy  |  Breast feeding (The topical anaesthetic applied prior to treatment to numb the skin can penetrates the bloodstream)  |  Sun Spots that are undiagnosed

What to Expect Post

Skin Needling treatment

The skin will be pink (mild sun burn appearance, pin point bleeding and slight oedema present). Hyaluronic Acid and a post treatment barrier cream will be applied to the skin.

Home Care

Whilst skin is healing, you must only use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen. No Active Cosmeceutical grade skincare (Vitamin A and C, AHA’s — glycolic & lactic acids) or exfoliants.

Multiple treatments are necessary to achieve maximum results. After desired results have been achieved, the client can expect them to last 12 months in which time maintenance treatments will be prescribed.

Science behind the process

PRP centrifuge

Informed by science, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are a product of new medical technologies for aesthetic medicine. Click on the image below to see the science behind the process — a central part of the PRP process is the separation of blood and plasma with the use of a centrifuge.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Harnessing the client’s owns blood to trigger effective change in the skin at a cellular level. Plasma is full of platelets, cytokines, vitamins, hormones, electrolytes, proteins and growth factors which kick start rejuvenation by impacting on stem cells to proliferate and differentiate.

Growth factors are essential for:
Stem cell migration  |  Differentiation  |  Proliferation  |  Stimulation of fibroblasts to induce the formation of new collagen and blood vessels

Indications

Rejuvenation of: Eye area  |  Face  |  Neck  |  Décolletage  |  Scalp / Hair  |  Wounds  |  Injury  |  Pre surgery

Expectations for PRP

Visible results seen 2 to 3 weeks post treatment and gradually texture and tone of skin continue to improve over the next six months. Prescribed cosmeceutical grade skin care and LED Light therapies can further enhance longevity of results. Advanced wrinkling can not be reversed and minimal improvement in clients with alcohol and tobacco abuse. Severe scarring may not respond. Regular PRP treatments to improve, enhance and maintain results (Regenlab, 2017).

PRP has over 50 clinical studies backing its legitimacy in fields such as sports medicine, orthopaedics and cosmetic — anti ageing and rejuvenation.
